Habitat promotes fundraisers for Scholarship & After-School Programs

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River Habitat for Humanity’s successful Scholarship and After-School Program and Prep Club are entering their fourth year. Funds are raised for the Scholarship Program through special events and the generous donations of individuals, foundations, and businesses in Indian River County.

In September and October there are two very special, Scholarship Fundraising Events planned. Living Yoga Benefit:  Through the month of September, Living Yoga Studio will donate gifts received through their special Friday gift class to IRHFH’s Scholarship Program.  This open, all-level class is held each Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  Class cost is a donation – whatever you are inclined to give.  There is no need to register – walk-ins and beginners are welcome to join in the fun.  Living Yoga is located at 333 17th Street, Suite K.  Information:  Call (772) 562-9860 ext. 209.

Annual Bowl to Build Lives Bowling Tournament:  The popular IRHFH Bowling Tournament will be held on Sunday, October 17 at the newly renovated Vero Bowl.  We are currently looking for a $1,500 T-shirt sponsor and $200 lane sponsors.  Registrations for this fun-filled event are $30 per person.  To sponsor or register call (772) 562-9860 ext. 209.

The support of the community has enabled IRHFH to award $1,000 post-secondary education scholarships to eight homeowner children and one homeowner this academic year, such as Atilla Gabor, who is currently enrolled as a senior at Georgia Tech in the aerospace engineering program.

The Scholarship Program also provides subsidy funding for academic after-school programs.  It is anticipated that 42 homeowner students will participate in the after-school program during the coming academic year.  Habitat homeowner children often work on computers during after-school care at the Gifford Youth Activity Center.

For more information about the Scholarship Program call Debbie Parcher, IRHFH’s Resource Coordinator at 562-9860 ext. 232.
