Artists invited to create art for Hibiscus Festival shopping bags

VERO BEACH — The Hibiscus Festival Committee and Call to Artist Chairman, Sharon Morgan, invite all area artists to participate in the 2011 Call to Artists, creating artwork for Eco-Friendly shopping bags which will help promote the annual Hibiscus Festival, scheduled to be held on April 15 and 16 in historic downtown Vero Beach.

Adding to the Festival’s promotional product inventory of t-shirts, posters and postcards will be Eco-Friendly Shopping Bags. The winning artist will have their art silk screened on an Eco-Friendly Shopping Bag that will be sold in advance of the Festival for pre-promotion purposes as well as during the festival day. The winning art will also be included in the Hibiscus Festival Special Section printed by the Press Journal on April 14.

An added incentive to the artists entering the Call to Artists competition will be an invitation to participate in the Hibiscus Festival Art Show within an Artist’s Cooperative Booth at no additional charge. Submitted art that is not chosen for the shopping bags may be retooled into postcards, note cards, or other items (not including shopping bags) to sell to the public. Items produced must be approved by the Hibiscus Festival Committee. Please consider that this is a family festival and the artwork should be suitable for the event. If an artist wishes to rent a space for their other pieces of art to be sold, there will be a booth charge; booth space may be reserved by downloading the form located on www.hibiscusfesitval.org.

The Call to Artists is open to all artists ages 18 and older. Designs must be in a horizontal format. Size of artwork must be 12″ wide by 6.5″ high at 300 dpi. Images may be .tif, jpg, pdf, psd. Designs must include Hibiscus Festival logo (The words “Hibiscus Festival” and “Vero Beach, Florida” must stay intact with the hibiscus flower as part of the design.) The logo must be 3″ high by 2.25″ wide and this is a universal request to all submitting artists.

Artists may download a high resolution copy of the Hibiscus Festival logo sized for the submission at www.HibiscusFestival.org. Artists may submit up to 2 images for consideration with one entry fee of $20 payable to Hibiscus Festival. Mail images on a CD along with the entry fee and this completed form to: Hibiscus Festival Design Contest, c/o Main Street Vero Beach, PO Box 6253, Vero Beach, FL 32961. Please mark the CD with artist’s name and contact information. Deadline date is September 30, 2010 and notification date will be mid-October.

The Hibiscus Festival supports the Main Street Vero Beach (MSVB) and Vero Heritage, Inc. mission and goals. The most important goal at this time for MSVB is to bring back the old Florida Theater and, along with the Heritage Center, invite back local residents to the downtown area to live, work, shop and play. Attendance at the April 16 Festival is projected to be between 15,000 and 20,000 people.
