FELLSMERE — The Fellsmere Riding Club will host the Steven Mauldin Memorial Youth Rodeo Buckle Series on Saturdays August 14, September 11 and October 9. All events begin at 5 p.m. at the Fellsmere Riding Club arena, 13101 99th Street in Fellsmere. The public is invited to come out and cheer as area youth show off their rodeo skills.
Horse event age division: Tots 10/under; Jr. 11-14; Sr. 15-18. Rough stock age divisions are dependent on experience and weight. Free admission/concessions available.
Events include Mutton Busting, Steer Riding, Jr. Bulls, Open Team, Tot, Jr. & Sr. Barrel, Tot, Jr. & Sr. Pole Bending, Tot, Jr.& Sr. Goat Tying, Stick horse barrels/poles (2-5), Goat Untying (2-5), Goat tail tying (6-9 yr old), Dummy steer roping (6-9 yr old), Wild Cow Milking (6-9 yr old), and Dummy Calf Branding (6-9 yr old).
The non-profit Fellsmere Riding Club was founded by local cowboys and their families in 1954. Every year since 1955, a Cracker Day Rodeo has been held on the first Sunday in March. Proceeds from adult events help maintain the arena hold events such as these for families and children. Any other profits support the local 4-H, recreation department, St Jude’s and other children’s charities.
