John T. Tellis, 93, died Aug. 3, 2010, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. He was born in Union Springs, Ala., and had lived in Vero Beach since 1958, coming from Kissimmee.
Before retirement, he worked in the citrus industry with Groves Brothers and Marshall Barnes. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church, Gifford, and sang in the choir. Survivors include his sons, John Tellis Jr., of Union Springs and Walter Tellis and Rufus Tellis, both of Warwick, Ga.; daughters, Grace Tellis and Margaret Rea Tellis, both of Union Springs, Mattie B. Williams of Warwick, Ga., Zeldra Cato of Palm Bay, Annie Mills of Knoxville, Tenn., and Berma Green of Vero Beach; stepson, Charles Hope Sr. of Phenix City, Ala.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxie Tellis.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 7 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
