Geren Marks Bruce, 83, died July 29, 2010, at VNA Hospice House after a very brief battle with cancer.
She was born in the Liberty, Texas, area and lived there until 1972 when she moved to the Houston area. In 2002, she relocated to Sebastian. Bruce graduated from Louisiana State University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Before retirement, she was a librarian for the City of Houston Public Libraries. Prior to that, she was a special education teacher for the Liberty and Anahuac Independent School Districts in Texas.
She was a member of Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Sebastian and served on the altar guild. She volunteered at the Sebastian Public Library.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Ewing Bruce (Janice Broda), Bush Hunter Bruce, Russell Paul Bruce; stepdaughter Victoria Ennis Bridges (Jim); and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ewing Bruce; second husband, Reginald William Ennis Jr.; daughter, Hullin; stepdaughter, Mary Katherine Ennis; mother, Alice Craighead Marks; father, Alfred Russell Marks Sr.; and brother, Alfred Russell Marks Jr. (Ann).
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, VNA Hospice, Cancer Care Centers Foundation, Pelican Island Audubon Society, and/or Sebastian Public Library of Indian River County.
There will be a memorial service at the Sebastian Lakes Subdivision Clubhouse in Sebastian, which is near the Sebastian Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 7, starting at 2 p.m.
