Frederick A. Loudermilk, 58, Vero Beach

Frederick A. Loudermilk, 58, died July 26, 2010, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 20 years coming from Columbus. Mr. Loudermilk served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include his brothers, Melvin Loudermilk, Jr., of Ft. White, Fla., Michael Loudermilk, of Winter Beach, Fla.; and sister, Jeanette Suit, of Palm Bay.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Loudermilk.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1401 21st Street, Vero Beach.

Retired sheriff’s sergeant loses battle with cancer

A retired longtime sheriff's sergeant died of cancer over the weekend, officials said. James 'Jimmy' Stewart passed away overnight on Saturday in Tennessee, where he moved after retiring from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. His age was not immediately available. It was unclear if any local memorials would be held for the retired law enforcement official. "He was a very well-respected sergeant within our agency," Flowers said. "He will certainly be missed." Stewart worked for the sheriff's office from 1986 to 2011, Flowers said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
