Under the Oaks applications being accepted

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Art Club will accept applications on-line beginning Aug. 2 for the 60th Annual Under the Oaks Fine Art & Craft Show, which takes place March 11 – 13 at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.  Applications are available at www.JuriedArtServices.com.

The Vero Beach Art Club has held the Under the Oaks Fine Art & Crafts Show in Riverside Park for the last 59 years.  Under the Oaks is hitting their 60-year Diamond Anniversary this year and plans to make this show extraordinarily bright and sparkling to commemorate the occasion.

The committee, headed by Chris Pierce and Christine Thomas are already planning the show, and are determining how to top what is already considered a precious jewel event for the Treasure Coast.

Bringing from 80,000 to 90,000 people to the area, Under the Oaks is the high point of the artists’ season as well.  Under the Oaks has been voted 57th in the Top 200 Shows in the Nation and the readers of Florida Monthly also voted it the Best Arts and Crafts Show in the State.

On August 2 the application process opens online at www.JuriedArtServices.com.  The show promises to be one of the biggest years ever so if you are interested, get registered online now.  The competition will be stiff and there are only approximately 200 spots for this fine arts & crafts juried art show so be sure to bring your top work to the competition.

Man critical after being struck by vehicle Friday in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — A 70-year-old Brevard County man was critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck while walking across U.S. 1 last week, fire rescue crews and sheriff's officials said. Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." The Vero Beach Lifeguard Association recently released its monthly report for the beaches at Jaycee Park, Humiston Park and South Beach Park. Lifeguards said about 54,105 beachgoers flocked to the shore in January. The highest beach-attendance record of 65,700 was set in 2019 for Vero Beach, lifeguards said. Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th.
