INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The National Conference on Volunteering and Service takes place every year with over 5000 attendees from all over the United States and overseas. This year’s conference took place in New York City from June 28th through June 30th. The conference is a signature event for the service sector and an important gathering of nonprofit, corporate, and government leaders. The conference is organized by the Corporation for National & Community Service and the Points of Light Institute/Hands on Network.
This year’s theme was It’s Up to You and it could not be more relevant to our current social and economic environment. The conference provided inspiration, networking, and learning opportunities to further fuel entrepreneurial organizations and their volunteers to continue to make a critical difference.
Attendees of the conference from Indian River County included both, Plumbago Volunteer Services and RSVP – Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Plumbago Volunteer Service’s mission is to promote volunteerism, connect people with the opportunity to serve, and to build the capacity of volunteer programs in Indian River County. Plumbago is committed to increasing awareness around volunteers and their service to the community. Retired Senior Volunteer Program is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and over. RSVP believes “When you volunteer, you’re not just helping others-you’re helping yourself.”
Plumbago Volunteer Services, Indian River County’s Volunteer Center, was a scholarship recipient for the 2010 National Conference on Volunteering and Service in New York City. In an effort to continue the stamina garnered from the conference, Plumbago Volunteer Services is determined to succeed in providing 1000 hours of service to Indian River County for 2011. We look forward to working with the volunteers in our community to help us reach our goal.
