Elmer F. Levy, 96, formerly of Vero Beach, passed away July 10, 2010 at Swedish American Heart Hospital.
Born May 30, 1914 in Chicago, the son of James and Rose (Zdenek) Levy, he married Mary Podzimek on Feb. 6, 1937 and they remained wed for 61 1-2 years before he death in 1998.
He was currently living over the past year in Loves Park with his daughter, Dianne and her husband, Jerry Hammer. He retired from Canteen Co. after 45 years as a purchasing agent and invented a device to detect coin slugs used in the Canteen vending machines.
He retired to Vero Beach in August 1979. He was an avid golfer and very proud of a hole in one he had on April 23, 1999 at the 17th hole at Sandridge Golf Course.
He loved playing golf with his grandsons, Mike and James, and good friend/neighbor, Bill Radford.
He loved sports and was a terrific horseshoe player, as well as golfer, and was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears.
Survivors include his daughter, Dianne (Jerry) Hammer; son, Don Levy; grandchildren, Robert (Brandy) Levy, Donna Levy, Kim (Michael) Ferguson, Jason Levy, Eric (Emily) Levy, Matt Levy, Mike (Natalie) Hammer, Jeff Hammer, James (Angie) Hammer, Heather Hall; great grandchildren, Andrew, Tuff, Ty, Jacob, Jordan, Emma, Carrie, Tristan James, Hailey, and Trevor.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; parents, James and Rose; sisters, Eleanore Mangold, Marion Erban; brother, Raymond Levy, daughter- in-law, Barbara Levy; granddaughter, Ashlie Nicole Hammer; and grandson, Mark Andrew Levy.
