Summer is the perfect time to just go. Where you might need an excuse to get out in another season, there’s no reason to hesitate launching a spontaneous day or weekend trip while you have nice weather on your side.
In addition to the items you routinely keep in your car, like a copy of your car insurance policy, vehicle registration and other maintenance items, you might want to consider stocking your car with the following items in preparation for a spur-of-the-moment voyage:
* UV protection. Sunglasses, sunscreen and hats are all items that will fit easily in your car and come in handy when you get out for some summer activity.
* Garbage bags. You won’t have to worry about making a mess of your car when you bring along some snacks.
* Cooler. Keep a small cooler in your trunk so you can keep beverages cold whether you are in the car or venture out.
* Bug spray. Keep a small container in your car so you can enjoy an evening outside without being eaten alive.
* Active gear. Keep a Frisbee in the trunk for an activity when you need to get out and stretch your legs. It might also not be a bad idea to keep an extra swimsuit and towel in the car in case you get the urge to stop at the beach on a hot day.
* Maps and atlas. These should be in your car anyway, but they are a must if you are the type of person who enjoys a spontaneous road trip.
* Camping gear. If you like to camp, it might be worth keeping a smaller tent and basic supplies in your trunk, especially if you might feel the urge to turn a day trip into a weekend getaway.
As you think about taking the car out on a few extra trips, it might also be a good time to revisit your auto insurance coverage to see if it still fits your needs. For more on auto insurance and more safety tips, visit Allstate.com.
