SEBASTIAN – Construction on the new three-story tower at Sebastian River Medical Center is moving along well, according to hospital officials.
The $25 million project will include a 16-bed intensive care unit and 42 additional private patient suites. Construction is expected to be wrapped sometime in 2011. To celebrate reaching the 80 percent complete mark, the hospital will be hosting a summer fun event Aug. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the back parking lot.
There will be Latin performers, including some of Sebastian River Medical Center’s own – Dr. and Mrs. Francisco Ruiz, Dr. Roberta Rose, and Joe Wynes.
Wynes, from the Cardiopulmonary Department, took first place in the 2010 Dancing with Vero competition.
Also scheduled to perform are Joe and Shari Tessier, owners of 14th Avenue Dance Studio, and Swingsation Dance Troupe, also of 14th Avenue Dance Studio.
The newest addition to the hospital complex will connect to the existing facility so patients, visitors, and medical staff will be able to easily move between departments, hospital officials said.
Also included in the expansion project is the addition of 350 parking spaces to the existing parking area. The extra parking will offer patients, visitors and staff improved accessibility to the hospital’s new expansion.
Sebastian River Medical Center is currently licensed for 129 beds, which will increase to 166 beds when the expansion project is complete.
Sebastian River Medical Center is owned and operated by Health Management Associates (HMA), a firm with headquarters in Naples.
