Albert Slaughter, 75, died June 24, 2010, at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
He was born in Sebastian and graduated from Douglas Elementary School in Wabasso, Gifford High School in Gifford and FAMU in Tallahassee.
He was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of major after serving 20 years. He was employed with Safeway Foods and was also a self-employed tax consultant.
He was a member of Scabbard and Blade Military Honor Society and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Survivors include his brothers, Nathaniel Slaughter of Port St. Lucie and the Rev. Arthur Slaughter of Vero Beach; and sisters, Laretha Higgs of Melbourne and Florine Brown of St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bishop Alphonso Slaughter, Timothy Franklin Slaughter and David Slaughter Jr.; and sisters, Lollie Mae Cummings and Juanita Council.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. July 2 at the Wabasso Church of God. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. July 3 at the church, with the Rev. Arthur Slaughter officiating.
Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach. Arrangements are by Thorne’s Mortuary in Stuart.
