SEBASTIAN – For the third time, Sebastian business owners are being asked to break out their grills and stay open a little later as the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce prepares for Light Up Your Grill Night.
The evening is a summertime version of the Chamber’s Light Up Night, which is held each December and serves as a way of drumming up customers during the summer, according to Britney Faulk at the Chamber. “Some people just don’t know” where and what some businesses are in Sebastian, Faulk said, adding that participating in the event could help with visibility.
“It’s definitely something we encourage,” she said.
This year, the Chamber is calling the businesses to go along with a watermelon theme – last year’s was pineapple.
Undercover judges will be traveling to the businesses to sample or view the watermelon, depending on the categories the businesses sign up for.
“It’s a good summer food,” Faulk said.
Businesses can compete for the best taste, best carved, or best watermelon-inspired cake.
Along with offering customers tastes of watermelon, business owners will provide other refreshments, door prizes, giveaways, discounts and other enticements.
Last year, more than 30 businesses participated in the Light Up Your Grill Night. The Chamber hopes to have more this year.
The event is open to both Chamber members and non-members. The cost to register is $30 for members and $50 for non-members.
Businesses have until the end of July to register for the event, which will be held Friday, Aug. 6 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
