Cynthia Coggan Barber, 90, Vero Beach

Cynthia Coggan Barber, 90, died June 26, 2010, in Vero Beach.

She was born in Boston and lived in Vero Beach. She was a lifelong summer resident of Blue Hill, Maine.

She was a poet and a lifelong member of Blue Hill Country Club and Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club.

She was educated at Derby Academy in Hingham, Mass., Emma Willard in Troy, N.Y., and Smith College, where she received a special prize for English from her favorite poet, Robert Frost, upon graduation.

Survivors include her daughters, Alison Gillen of Vero Beach and Shelby Tranter of Boynton Beach; son, Tyler Barber of Williamsburg, Va., seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Barber; brother, Sidney Coggan; and sister, Jean Becton.

A private family service is planned for later in the year.
