VERO BEACH — Every year at the start of hurricane season, Treasure Coast residents get to watch WPTV Channel 5’s Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle as he treks from Sebastian to Boca Raton in support of hurricane awareness for the American Red Cross North.
Steve will be at the Sebastian River Medical Center on Monday, May 31 from noon to 1:00 pm and from there will go on to Lobster Shanty in Vero Beach by 3 pm. He will then go on to Dyer Chevrolet in Vero Beach from 5 to 6:30 pm.
On Tuesday June 2, he’ll “land” at Cobb Landings in Ft Pierce for the noon weather break, and at Riverside National Bank, a division of TD bank in Port St Lucie at 2 pm. He’ll end his North Treasure Coast part of the journey at the Port St Lucie Civic Center from 5 to 6:30 pm.
This is Steve’s 11th year making the 120 mile trek. By car, the trip would take a little over two hours; by bike, with stops and rests, it will take him nearly five days. The public is invited to attend all check presentations and be a part of the on-air crowd for the live broadcasts.
Sarah Tippet Ruwe, CEO of the North Treasure Coast Chapter said, “We are so grateful that Steve does this ride to heighten public awareness of the American Red Cross and hurricane preparedness. Funds raised go to support our local chapter response. We appreciate all those who come out and join us and Steve in his trek through the Treasure Coast.”
