Jean Lane Messler, 87, Vero Beach

Jean Lane Messler, 87, died May 13, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Morristown, N.J.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach, coming from Franklin Lakes, N.J.

She graduated from Teaneck (N.J.) High School in 1941 and from Maryland College for Women in 1945.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Lou Lagoy of West Chester, Pa., Lizanne Lodge of Allendale, N.J., and Lisa Lane of Morristown; sons, Marc Lane of New York City and Brian Lane of Waldwick, N.J.; sister, Carolyn Clark; four stepchildren; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 29 years, Bill Lane; and second husband of 27 years, Eric Messler.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
