Willie McHellon, 78, Vero Beach

Willie McHellon, 78, died April 30, 2010, at VNA Hospice House.

He was born in Headland, Ala., and lived in Indian River County for 56 years. He was a retired truck driver for the citrus industry.

He was a member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Gifford.

Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia Singleton of Houston and Shelia Thomas and Darlene Tolbert, both of Vero Beach; brother, L.B. Nelson of Archer; sisters, Lily Pearl Crews and Vergia Reynolds, both of Ocala; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. May 7 at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. May 8 at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Gifford.

Burial will follow in Gifford Cemetery, Gifford. A guest book is available at stonebrothersfuneralhome.com.

Together: Gifford MLK parade, program brings unity, music, performances

GIFFORD — The spirit of solidarity flourished at the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade along 45th Street, where residents gathered to see creative floats, marching band performances and banners showing King's image along with some of his famous quotes.
