It’s springtime, which means that the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is being inundated with wildlife. Lots of orphaned babies as well as injured adult wildlife are finding temporary shelter with us. Today alone we’ve had one baby opossum, a pigeon and two baby raccoons enter the shelter. But since our area of expertise is with companion animals (animals who live in the home), we need volunteers who can help us transport injured wildlife as well as wild orphans to special wildlife centers for rehabilitation and eventual release.
We’ll get the animals ready and all you have to do is drive. Just tell us the days and times you’d be able to help out and we’ll call you whenever an animal comes in who needs to hitch a ride. We understand that your schedule might change or you might not be available. It’s ok. We have several other volunteers who we can call so we won’t be disappointed if you say “no.” But we will be delighted it you do say “yes.”
If you’d like to help out, please call our Volunteer Department at (772) 388-3331 ext. 20 and thank you!!!
