Harvest Food & Outreach Center thanks community

VERO BEACH — On behalf of the families we serve, we at the Harvest Food & Outreach Center wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Indian River Impact 100 for their gracious and life changing grant of $116,000. This grant opportunity will allow us to begin converting the North Vero Campus into the Cost Share Grocery Program, one of two Hunger Relief Programs available to our clients.

The space will also accommodate a collaborative partnership with the Indian River Food Pantry, which distributes emergency food to families in need. The goal is to have the center in place by the end of the year.

Families coming to the North Vero campus in need of crisis intervention and navigational tools can now thank our partners Indian River Community Foundation, John’s Island Community Service League and Grand Harbor for their generous grants. The grants were awarded to Harvest Food & Outreach Center to help cover the cost of a case worker in the Crisis Relief Center as well as food and services for Families In Need. Receiving these grants opens more doors for families in crisis and allows HFOC to present a road map to self-sufficiency by way of its Hunger Relief and educational programs.

Our sincere and enthusiastic thanks go out to Treasure & Space Coast Radio for their recent coordination and management on our behalf of the first ever Shopping Cart Parade held in conjunction with the Hibiscus Festival on April 17th. As a result of the relationships they forged with Graves, Hill & Colton PA, the title sponsor; Publix and the Hibiscus Festival Committee, more than 25 local companies joined the parade with their lively decorated shopping carts and baskets full of non-perishable food items. All in all, more than 6,300 pounds of food were collected for Harvest Food & Outreach Center’s Emergency Food Box Program. This equates to more than 9,500 free meals to families in crisis and the community has been enlightened on the issue of food insecurity within our community.

Harvest Food & Outreach Center, founded in 2003 by Austin & Ginny Hunt, provides food, crisis services, programs and opportunities for education to families fighting to break the cycle of poverty.
