Walter M. Payne, 94, Vero Beach

Walter M. Payne, 94, died April 8, 2010, at VNA Hospice House.

He was born in Baltimore and moved to Vero Beach in 1998, coming from Jensen Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korean War.

He was a 1938 graduate of Hobart College, Geneva, N.Y., and earned his master’s degree from the University of Miami. He worked as an accountant for Merrill-Stevens Dry Dock Co., Miami, for 17 years prior to his retirement.

Survivors include the Joseph D. Kniseley family of Jensen Beach; nieces, Fair, Eleanor and Marsha; and nephews, James, Duncan and Robert.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Payne and James “Harvey” Payne.

A scattering at Sea Flyover will be 11 a.m., April 15, at House of Refuge, Stuart. Bagpiper, Michael E. Hyde, will be performing.
