American Cancer Society has programs to help cancer patients

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dealing with cancer is hard, but the American Cancer Society is here to help.

Newly diagnosed patients can access free resources, information and guidance 24 hours a day, seven days a week via phone at 1-800-227-2345 or via web at www.cancer.org. We offer accurate, unbiased information about cancer to patients, caregivers and family.

Newly diagnosed cancer patients are eligible to receive a New Patient Packet, which provides customized information related to their cancer diagnosis.

In addition to information, the American Cancer Society also provides free support services to help patients with the day-to-day challenges of cancer. Services include:

Assistance with transportation to and from cancer treatment;

Support programs for women and men with cancer;

Confidence-restoring sessions that help women look their best while going through radiation and/or chemotherapy;

Treatment related lodging assistance;

Referrals to community and national resources.
