Marilynn R. Pezone, 72, Vero Beach

Marilynn R. Pezone, 72, died March 8, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 20 years, coming from Sea Girt, N.J.

She owned a local antique furniture business and worked as a companion/aide to the elderly. She was a graduate of Warwick High School, Warwick, N.Y.

Survivors include her daughters; Dianne Conforte of Apollo Beach and Joanne Murphy of Port St. Lucie; sons, Kenneth Sanford of Southington, Conn., and Dr. Richard Sanford of Holmdel, N.J.; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. April 11 at the Fort Pierce Inlet beach on South Hutchinson Island.

At least two beaches will be closed starting this weekend ahead of the beach restoration project, which will start back up next week, county officials said. Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." The Vero Beach Lifeguard Association recently released its monthly report for the beaches at Jaycee Park, Humiston Park and South Beach Park. Lifeguards said about 54,105 beachgoers flocked to the shore in January. The highest beach-attendance record of 65,700 was set in 2019 for Vero Beach, lifeguards said. Community Development Department closes in-person services

The Community Development Department closed in-person services Monday as county officials implement more health precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Officials plan to add more physical barriers to the front counters inside the building, which already has temperature scanners installed. County employees and those who visit county facilities are already required to wear masks inside. County Administrator Jason Brown was not immediately available to confirm reports that six employees in the Community Development Department tested positive for the virus.
