Hawaii: Where travelers find the ‘spirit of aloha’

(ARA) – Vacation season will be here before you know it and if you’re thinking about visiting Hawaii, now is the time to start planning your trip. Because the weather is so beautiful in the summertime, and people have more time to spend on a trip, it’s one of the most popular times of year to visit the islands.

Act fast and you can still find cheap flights to Honolulu, which is on the island of Oahu, as well as to the airports on Hawaii (“the Big Island”), Maui, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. Which islands will you visit?

If you’ve never been to Hawaii before, it may be a good idea to book everything at once, by searching for Hawaii vacations on sites like Travelocity.com. You can often combine airline tickets, car rentals and hotels in one package and get better value. Because so many tourists come to visit the islands, hotels in every price range are plentiful here.

The most popular place to begin any Hawaiian vacation is on Oahu, the most populated of all the islands in the chain. The world famous Waikiki Beach is located here. So is the Diamond Head Crater and Pearl Harbor. Colossal waves create unsurpassed conditions for surfing throughout the winter months. In the summer months, snorkeling and diving are popular activities for visitors.

The second most popular Hawaiian island to visit is Maui, home of the dormant Haleakala volcano – a wonderful sight to see. There are also numerous waterfalls, as well as one of the world’s most scenic drives on Maui. The Road to Hana twists and turns as it takes you around the island. At some points, the road seems so treacherous you may consider turning back, but stick with it. What you’ll find at the end is well worth the drive.

Those who have always dreamed of just getting away from it all should plan on visiting “The Garden Island” of Kauai. It has some of the most magnificent scenery you’ll ever see, including beautiful waterfalls, colorful tropical plants and flowers and some of the prettiest blue water you can imagine.
