Dorothy Carroll Gabbard, 89, Vero Beach

Dorothy Carroll Gabbard, 89, died March 18, 2010 at Indian River Estates Medical Center.

She was born in Mercer County, Ky., and lived in Vero Beach for 37 years, coming from W. Lafayette, Ind.

She was a member of Christ By The Sea United Methodist Church; the Order of Eastern Star of Indiana and Kentucky; the United Methodist Women, Vero Beach; and was a VNA Hospice volunteer in Vero Beach.

Survivors include her son, William Edward Gabbard of Aurora, Colo.; daughters, Rebecca Fernald of Richmond, Va., Anne Gabbard Malsbary and Virginia Jane Bryant, both of Vero Beach; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gabbard; two brothers; and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. services: A memorial service will be at 12:45 p.m., Sunday, March 21 at Christ By The Sea United Methodist Church, 3755 AIA, Vero Beach.

Interment will take place in Lexington, Ky. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book may be signed at strunkfuneralhome.com.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
