Martha Juanita Maher, 94, Vero Beach

Martha Juanita Maher, 94, died March 14, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

She was born in New Castle, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since October, coming from Los Angeles. Before retirement, she was a property manager for a real estate company for 30 years and manager for an apartment building, both in Los Angeles.

She attended St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Survivors include her sons, James Maher of Big Pine Key and Thomas Maher of Vero Beach; brother, Harry Shaffer of Treasure Island; sisters, Gladys Pape and Alice Kerr, both of New Castle; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Maher.

No services are planned. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book may be signed at strunkfuneralhome.com.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council.
