Dancing in the Streets at Downtown Friday

VERO BEACH — When you come to the next Downtown Friday, 5:30 to 8:30 Friday, March 26, you will be “Dancing in the Streets” all night long.  Downtown Friday takes place in historic Downtown Vero Beach on the Downtown Friday block, 14th Avenue between 20th and 21st Streets.

Downtown Friday is pleased to bring back Dreamer. The exhilarating and expressive vocals of Anita Cotti create the perfect backdrop for favored dance titles and love songs that create moments to cherish. Performing with the quality that only comes with years of dedication and polish, Dreamer keeps the energy up and the audience moving with a collection of hits from Top-40, rock, R&B, island style, country and more that showcase the musical and vocal talents of this multi-faceted group.

During the two band breaks party goers will enjoy watching Shari and Joe Tessier and local dance professionals affiliated with their 14th Avenue Dance Studio. Ten years ago, the Tessiers’ performed at a Downtown Friday and because of that fateful evening they decided to make their home and business permanent in Vero Beach.

At approximately 6:15, audiences will enjoy a Tango Demo by the Vero Beach Tango Group, a Swing Demo followed with a Line Dance lesson by Joe & Shari Tessier. During the second band break at 7:15, Troupe Sahar will shake it up with a Belly Dance demo.  James Martin, a runner up at the recent Dancing with Vero’s Stars competition will ‘Swing’ with Stefanie Conrado and the Tessiers will ‘wow’ the crowds with a Salsa Demo. When Downtown Friday ends, cross the street to the dance studio for their Open House offering a free dance night and some dancing instructions.

The Downtown Friday block will be filled with booths, food and drink and children will love the Downtown Friday bounce house, cotton candy and sand art. Try your luck at the first Downtown Friday Corn Hole games and win gift certificates from Riverside Café.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
