INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting Operation Medicine Cabinet on Saturday, providing another opportunity for residents to safely dispose of their expired and unneeded medications.
The operation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at seven county locations, including the Sheriff’s Office, a gas station, and pharmacies. “Citizen’s every day are disposing of prescription drugs in the wrong manner or these drugs are getting into the wrong hands,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Instead of flushing medicines down the toilet or tossing them in the trash, which can lead to environmental contamination, the Sheriff’s Office asks residents to bring their medicines to any of the participating locations during Operation Medicine Cabinet or to the Sheriff’s Office any other day.
The event is being help in part with CVS Pharmacy, which is giving away $5 gift cards while supplies last to those who bring their medicines.
