Sebastian resident files for State Rep. Debbie Mayfield’s seat

SEBASTIAN — Sebastian Republican Bradley Ward has announced his intent to run for State House District 80, currently held by Rep. Debbie Mayfield. He has not yet filed the necessary paperwork, according to the Supervisor of Elections Web site.

Ward is the president of the Indian River County Republican Club and owner of Orchid Wealth Management. A county resident since 1996, he is married and has two children. He is an Eagle Scout. “I continue to watch the economy and the politics surrounding attempts to ‘fix’ it,” Ward said in a prepared statement. “I fear that excessive government spending at all levels in an attempt to get people to work and business to grow while a noble goal has been poorly thought out and rushed.”

Ward said he is opposed to unfunded state and federal mandates, adding, “If you can’t pay for it, don’t pass it.”

He believes that the country should responsibly drill for oil of the Florida coast and use the fees and shared revenues to create jobs and businesses for Floridians.

“We need sound judgment at all levels of our government,” he said in his prepared announcement. “People willing to take unpopular but necessary steps to preserve the future for our children.  Conservative, capitalist, pro-business legislation is needed NOT high speed trains, government run healthcare, more unfunded mandates, higher taxes, higher debt and more ill-conceived ‘stimulus packages.'”

According to the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections Office Web site, only Rep. Debbie Mayfield has filed to run.

However, Indian River County businessman, Art Argenio, has also announced his intent to run.
