Learn the art of recording life stories

VERO BEACH — At the Tuesday, March 9 general meeting of the Indian River Genealogical Society, members and guests will learn the importance of combining genealogy, oral history and family stories in book form to leave as a legacy for future generations.  The program will be introduced by Mary Mitchell, who facilitates the Memoir Writing Genealogy Interest Group (GIG) for IRGS.

GIG members have been working for months to record their families’ stories.  Susan Rienzo, Lola Sloan, Jeanette Webber, Eva Needs and Cindy Hineman will share the fascinating stories they have written, and hopefully, inspire others to do the same.

General meetings of IRGS are held on second Tuesdays monthly, September through May, at 9:30 a.m. in the large first floor meeting room of the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach. Following a brief business session and refreshments, the program will begin at 10:30 a.m..  All general meetings of IRGS are free and open to the public.

Mrs. Mitchell has an MA in Human Development and Gerontology and for many years produced and hosted the television program “Prime of Your Life”.  She has published four books on this subject and is an avid advocate for the elderly.
