Chamber announces RIDES motor sports event in May

VERO BEACH —  RIDES, a motor sports and collector event, will provide a close-up look at a blast from the past, present and future. The event, scheduled for Saturday, May 22 was announced by the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce.

The RIDES event will be held at the Indian River County Fairgrounds and will feature exhibits of a wide variety of “RIDES” including categories for antique cars, classics, hot rods, race cars, new cars, trucks, exotic cars and motorcycles. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to earn People’s Choice Awards for individual judging categories based on votes cast by the public. “RIDES will bring car and motorcycle enthusiasts together for a sensational and exclusive event” stated Beverly Keehner, event organizer. “We are confident the event will draw people from outside our region during an off-season weekend bringing business to area retail, restaurants and hotels.”

The event will provide for a limited number of business exhibits in a designated business trade show area on the grounds. Area car dealers will also have the opportunity to place their new car models on display for the public. In addition to vehicle exhibits and demonstrations, this family oriented event will include a variety of activities for children and live music throughout the day.

“While there are area car shows and informal car get-togethers, there is no area event like RIDES where all automobiles and motorcycles are brought together with vendors and suppliers” stated Brian Holmes. “This is a first of a kind for Indian River County” he stated.  Holmes is owner of Art of the Line, a local vehicle pinstriping business. Holmes will be among vendors participating at the event and will demonstrate the art of pinstriping. The 1st Annual RIDES Extravaganza festival will include:

Kids Lane, where free activities will abound — free pony rides, face painting, bounce houses, games, and prizes.  The kids will select their favorite emergency vehicle, from those gathered on Hero’s Highway, for a special trophy.  Children 10 and under will be admitted free to the show in order to make it an affordable day of family fun.

Women’s World, a shopping and pampering area, where vendors with products and services that appeal to women will be gathered.

Entertainment area, with live music throughout the festival including Bruce Hunter & The Easy People, The Porch Pickers Bluegrass Band, and Numbers You Don’t Know.

Special appearances by the Terry Borcheller,  driver who finished 1st at the 2010 Daytona Rolex 24 race, Glen Burkhart with his jet funny car, and award-winning drag cars will surely please the motor enthusiasts.

People’s Choice trophies will be presented to exhibited cars, motorcycles, and trucks based on votes cast by the spectators.

RIDES promises to be a day of fun for the whole family.Interested exhibitors, vendors and businesses should call Beverly Keehner at the Chamber of Commerce 772-567-3491 or visit www.RidesExtravaganza.com.
