Accused child molester from Indian River County found in Ohio

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – U.S. Marshals have arrested an Indian River County man in the Ohio area on a warrant issued for child molestation, local authorities said early Tuesday.

Authorities caught up with David Gabbert, 49, of Indian River County, who has been accused of molesting a 6-year-old girl.

Gabbert faces a felony charge of lewd and lascivious molestation. He has not yet been transported back to Indian River County. How U.S. Marshals located Gabbert was not immediately known.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Gabbert assaulted the child on Jan. 10 sometime between 7 and 9 p.m. at a home on 17th Avenue in south county.

Gabbert told investigators on Jan. 25 that he had been tickling the girl underneath her clothes in the area of her buttocks, according to the warrant. He adamantly denied inserting a finger into the girl, the warrant states.

After the interview, Gabbert was released pending a warrant being issued for his arrest. By the time authorities had received the warrant on Feb. 2, Gabbert had fled.
