VERO BEACH — The Miss Hibiscus Pageant Committee is hosting a Queen for a Day special event for girls aged 16 to 21 on Sunday, February 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Center in Downtown Vero Beach. The afternoon will be filled with professional image tips and public speaking/interview coaching to help Miss Hibiscus competitors to learn what pageant judges are looking for.
Cindy Goetz, senior sales director with Mary Kay Cosmetics will demonstrate makeup for everyday and special occasion looks. Kim Hubbard, owner of The Color Experience, a Paul Mitchell Focus salon will share her secrets to having a “Good Hair Day” everyday. Models will show clothing from Blondie’s and stylist Trish Hickey-Reid will share trends and wardrobe tips. Scott Kelly from Island Images Professional Photography will offer attendees a chance to have their photo taken with a pageant crown. Janie Hoover will share ways to shine during public speaking and stand out during an interview. Pageant Sponsor Ocean Oaks Dental Group will have a display on cosmetic and general dentistry. Tootsies of Vero Beach will be the featured footwear sponsor of the day.
The Miss Hibiscus Pageant takes place on Friday April 16 at the Heritage Center and is open to girls ages 16 to 21 who live in Indian River County. All girls eligible for the pageant will receive a goody bag with style and beauty information, samples and coupons from local businesses. The afternoon event includes refreshments and dessert.
Contestant applications may be downloaded at www.hibiscuspageant.org or filled out at the February 21 Queen for a Day event. Names of contestants with completed applications will be placed in a drawing to win the $100 sponsor fee at the end of the afternoon. To qualify for the drawing, paperwork must be completed and the contestant must be present. Terry Torres of Bird Real Estate is sponsoring the drawing.
The winner of the Miss Hibiscus Pageant will serve as the Miss Hibiscus ambassador at various Downtown and City of Vero Beach events throughout the next year. The Queen receives $1000, First Runner Up $500 and Second Runner Up $300; as well as other prizes and gifts from corporate sponsors. There are special awards for Miss Congeniality and Most Photogenic.
