Richard L. Falk, 80, Vero Beach

Richard L. Falk, 80, died Jan. 12, 2010, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

He was born in Cleveland and moved to Vero Beach six years ago from South Hutchinson Island.

He graduated from the University of Michigan with a business degree. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a management consultant in a public accounting firm before becoming chief financial officer for Hertz and was vice president of Citibank in New York City.

He was a member of the Vero Beach Yacht Club, Campfire Club, and the Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carol Ann Falk of Vero Beach; daughters, Sue Ann Salimbene of North Potomac, Md., Lynann Zanella of Bethel, Conn.; son, Richard L. Falk of Tuckahoe, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Services: A Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Jan. 16 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
