Waldron C. Schruers, 93, Vero Beach

Waldron C. Schruers, 93, died Dec. 26, 2009, at the Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in Oil City, Pa., and moved to Vero Beach in 1984, coming from Pocono Manor, Pa. He served in the Navy during Word War II. Before retirement he was the vice-president of EF MacDonald Company in New York and Dayton, Ohio.

He was a member of the Vero Beach Country Club.

Survivors include his son, Fred Schruers; daughter, Priscilla Mitchell; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Vero Beach, P.O. Box 644, Vero Beach, FL 32961.

There will be no services.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
