Everett Michael Smallwood, 55, Vero Beach

Everett Michael Smallwood, 55, died Dec. 23, 2009, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in Akron, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 30 years, coming from his birthplace.

He was a handyman and of the Christian faith and served in the Army.

Survivors include his brother, Duane Smallwood of Madisonville, Tenn; sisters, Victoria Harberts of Cocoa and Diana L. Allen of Ravenna, Ohio.; and his father, James Smallwood of Lenoir City, Tenn.

No services are planned. Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
