Michael Bruce Carpenter, 63, Vero Beach

Michael Bruce Carpenter, 63, died Dec. 16, 2009, at his home.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for one year, coming from Boca Raton.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Before retirement, he worked for the Palm Beach County School Board for six years as an appliance technician.

He was a member of Team Spam in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Melinda Carpenter of Vero Beach; son, Shawn Carpenter of Mount Vernon, Ohio; daughter, Kelsey Axiotis of Boca Raton; sister, Sharon Haberman of St. Cloud; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Frank Strahorn was already considered a hero by his family, friends and marine brothers and sisters because of his military service around the world.
