Fellsmere to ‘Light Up’ night Friday with annual competition

FELLSMERE — Residents and businesses alike will show off their holiday spirit in Fellsmere Friday evening in the city’s annual Christmas Light Up Competition.

The Fellsmere Beautification Committee is sponsoring Light Up Night, which starts at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to have their holiday lights lit up until 10 p.m. for judging. Prizes will be awarded in four categories, with first place winners receiving a $50 gift card and second place finishers getting a $25 gift card.

The categories this year include:

Residential – Traditional Lights/Scene

Residential – Most Original

Commercial/Church – Traditional

Commercial/Church – Most Original

The winners will be announced at the end of judging, shortly after 10 p.m.

Man critical after being struck by vehicle Friday in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — A 70-year-old Brevard County man was critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck while walking across U.S. 1 last week, fire rescue crews and sheriff's officials said. Passion builds as soccer academy brings free program to Fellsmere

On any given Friday, the enthusiasm builds as the young team members race across the manicured fields to play their favorite sport at Fellsmere Elementary School. Port St. Lucie man in custody after bank robbery, high-speed chase, crash

TREASURE COAST — A Port St. Lucie man who stole more than $5,000 from a Fellsmere bank, then drove southbound at speeds of up to 120 mph before crashing his vehicle in St. Lucie County, was in custody Thursday afternoon, sheriff's officials said. The incident led nearby Fellsmere Elementary School to be placed on a brief lockdown. "(The suspect) demanded money be placed in a pillowcase he brought with him," Fellsmere police said. The incident caused a multi-agency response across two counties to capture the suspect. Police identified the man as 44-year-old David Abram Ziesel.
