Marie Swords Langley, 83, died with her family by her side Dec. 10, 2009 at her home in Vero Beach. She was born in Glasgow, Ky., and lived in Vero Beach for 63 years coming from Peoria, Ill. Mrs. Langley was Administrative Secretary to Vero Beach Police chiefs, Gossett, McCall and Gabbard. She was employed by the Vero Beach Police Dept for 23 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Raleigh Langley of Vero Beach, sons, Jesse B. Swords (Debbie) of Longwood, Kevin D. Swords (Carolyn) of Vero Beach, daughters, Beverly Swords Teel (Emory) of Fort Pierce, Charlene Swords Boob (Randy) of Charlotte, N.C., stepson, Leigh Langley (Denise) of Atlanta, Ga., sisters, Ella Hahn of Homosassa, Doris Wolfe (Bob) of Springhill, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren. Mrs. Langley was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles E. Swords; son, Charles Gary Swords; brothers, Glen, Warren and Robert Doss and parents Bedford and Erma Doss. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
