Richard “Dick” Lapointe, 73, Vero Beach

Richard “Dick” Lapointe, 73, died Dec. 11, 2009, at the Vero beach VNA Hospice House.He was born and raised in Skowhegan, Maine, and lived in Vero Beach since 1998.

He spent four years in the Navy. Before retiring, he worked for almost 25 years in automotive sales at Down East Toyota in Brunswick, Maine. He worked part time at various golf courses in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel; children, Jeffrey of Orrington, Maine, Todd of Baltimore, Kelly of Brewer, Maine, and Tracy Simpson of Bangor, Maine; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Royal Palm Clubhouse at Vista Royale in Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book may be signed at seawindsfh.com/obit.php.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
