Clyde E. Hungerford, 81, Vero Beach

Clyde E. Hungerford, 81, of Vero Beach, passed away surrounded by his family on Dec. 7, 2009 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. He was a devoted husband and hardworking, dedicated family man. He was born June 6, 1928 in Oneonta, N.Y., the son of Ernest and Ina Hungerford. He attended Oneonta City Schools and worked as a self employed trucker and machinist for the D&H Railroad, retiring in 1984. Clyde enjoyed tinkering, inventing and was an avid woodsman and woodworker. He had been a winter resident of Indian River County for 18 years and a full time resident for 1 year, coming from Maryland, N.Y. Mr. Hungerford was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, having served during the Korean Conflict. He attended Sebastian Methodist Church, Sebastian, FL. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Minnie Hungerford. He is also survived by his four children: Debra Shirt and her husband, Timothy, of Woodbridge, Va., Tom Hungerford of Woodbridge, Teresa Glavin and her husband, Shawn, of Maryland, N.Y. and Randy Hungerford and his wife, Meg of East Meredith, N.Y.;  and 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Esther LeDoux, Kenny Hungerford, Lionel Hungerford and Sarah Avery. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Charlie Hungerford and sister, Laura Minutola. Family will receive friends on Dec. 10, 2009 from 11-1 p.m. at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach. A memorial service will be held in New York in the spring.
