The Youth Guidance 15th Annual King of the Hill Tennis Tournament will be held Thursday evenings, January 14, 21, 28 and February 4, 11, 18 at the Moorings Tennis Club in Vero Beach. Events begin at 6 p.m. and tickets are $5.00. These exciting competitions involve U.S.P.T.A. Professionals from Vero Beach, Melbourne, Port St. Lucie and surrounding areas.
The King of the Hill Tennis Tournament of Vero Beach originated in January 1996 to provide area tennis fans the opportunity to enjoy high level doubles competition and give tennis professionals the chance to participate in and enjoy the spirit of competition. Over 1,500 spectators come and watch the tennis pros compete for the title of “King of the Hill.”
All monies raised will directly benefit the children in the Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Program, a local United Way Partner Agency. In addition to spectacular tennis, there will be a lot of excitement including a 50/50 raffle, silent and live auctions.
The primary purpose of Youth Guidance is to match each of its 700 at-risk K-12 children with a volunteer mentor 17 years and older. Mentors spend just a few hours a week with their mentee. The agency is actively seeking volunteers to serve as mentors, tutors or periodic volunteers at a special activity or to provide regular help in the office. Youth Guidance is also looking for partnerships with businesses, service clubs and church groups to pair with their unmatched children for just one activity a year. The Guidance Gallery, a board featuring 80 Youth Guidance children who need mentors, is available for organizations or businesses to display in their lobbies to help recruit mentors.
