Franklin Harold Spears, Sr., 92, Vero Beach

Franklin Harold Spears, Sr., 92, of Vero Beach, died Dec. 1, 2009 at VNA Hospice House. He was born October 21, 1917 in Huntington, W.V. and had lived in Ft. Pierce since 1967, coming from Panama City. Mr. Spears had lived in Vero Beach for the past 5 years, coming from Ft. Pierce. Mr. Spears was a US Army and US Air Force veteran of both WWII and Vietnam War. He spent 25 years in the US Army Air Corp. operating heavy equipment during the Vietnam War. For 10 years Mr. Spears operated heavy equipment for both the City of Ft. Pierce and finally spent more than 10 years with St. Lucie County, prior to his retirement. Mr. Spears is survived by two sons, Michael Spears of Deltona and Franklin H. Spears, Jr. of Vero Beach; two daughters, Kathryn Connolly of Vero Beach and Debra Spears of Ft. Pierce; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Spears is predeceased by his wife, Gladys Spears. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Dec. 4, at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home. Military Honors will be given at 8 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Winter Beach Cemetery. Donations may be made to Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, 100 Savannah Rd., Ft.
