Douglas J. Smith, 56, Vero Beach

Douglas J. Smith, 56, died Nov. 15, 2009, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. He was a lifetime resident of Vero Beach and a partner in Dura-Stone Nursery in Vero Beach. Survivors include his father, James Smith, of Vero Beach; mother, Wilma Jent Smith, of Vero Beach; brothers, Gregory Smith, of Leesburg, Fla., and David Smith, of Dickson, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Mark Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be 2 – 3 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2009, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. on Nov. 22 at the Strunk Funeral Home chapel.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life.
