Helga Elisabeth Towers, 80, Vero Beach

Helga Elisabeth Towers, 80, of Vero Beach, died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach after an extended illness.

Mrs. Towers was born Nov. 23, 1928 in Berlin, Germany and moved to Vero Beach 12 years ago from Port St. Lucie. She was a homemaker a member of the Grove Isle Social Club in Vero Beach.

Survivors include her daughters Elizabeth (Betty) Geddes of Flagler Beach, Patricia (Patty) Nichols of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Vivian Moore of Homestead, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1991.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
