Rocco Lewis, Jr., 51, Vero Beach

Rocco Lewis, Jr., 51, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. He was born Aug. 19, 1958 in White Plains, N.Y. and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 10 years, coming from Pleasantville, N.Y. He graduated from Pleasantville High School and was of the Catholic faith. He is survived by daughters, Jacqueline Dobler of Orlando and Kasey Lewis of Key Stone Heights; parents, Rocco and Barbara of Vero Beach; brother, Richard Lewis of Vero Beach and granddaughter, Halle Dobler. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Catherine and John Lewis and maternal grandparents, William and Helen Brainard. A memorial Mass will be held at noon, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomas S. Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
