National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Homeless Family Center of Vero Beach, Florida has joined numerous communities and cities around the country for National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, November 15 to 21, to raise community awareness.

The Indian River County Board of County Commissioners will proclaim its support of  National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week at 9 a.m. November 10th at the Board of County Commissioners meeting.

On Monday, Nov. 16 the Homeless Family Center will have an Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to see the residential facilities and services provided for homeless families on the Treasure Coast.  The center is located at 720 4th Street in Vero Beach.

On Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the businesses listed below in Indian River County will participate in this event allowing volunteers to solicit monetary donations and distribute brochures to benefit the Homeless Family Center:

Other activities throughout the week will also benefit the Homeless Family Center.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Classy Cupcakes, at 712 21st Street in Vero Beach will be selling a special Pumpkin Spice cupcake, with proceeds to benefit the HFC.  Each special cupcake purchase enters you into a drawing to win two Twilight New Moon Premiere Night tickets.

Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. Palm House Gallery & Studio will have a private exhibit of Through a Child’s Eyes, eye paintings created by homeless children currently living at the HFC.

Thursday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. resort staff of the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa will be washing cars to raise money for the HFC.

Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. the Twilight Saga:  New Moon Movie Premiere at the Majestic Theatre sponsored by Stickhead Lacrosse will benefit the HFC.  $20 tickets include admission, small popcorn, & small soda.

Nov. 15 to December 16, a canned food drive will take place at the Indian River Mall to benefit the HFC, with volunteer artists creating a Canned Art Sculpture Display which can be viewed from Dec. 16, until January 1.

Indian River County School District will donate a portion of ticket sales from the Vero Beach High School football game on October 30 and will solicit donations at the Sebastian River High School football game on November 6.

Monies raised from all of the events will benefit the Homeless Family Center and will be matched by a local anonymous donor resident.
