Vero Beach Holiday Home Tour

VERO BEACH — Five homeowners will open their festive homes on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the Vero Beach Holiday Home Tour.  Presented by Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church, all ticket proceeds will benefit the church ministries to the Homeless Family Center, Indian River Habitat for Humanity and the Source. The tour features residences on the barrier island styled in Christmas artistry in designs such as The Swedish Wonderland and The Seaglass Cottage.  The actual addresses will be revealed on the day of the event; tour patrons will receive descriptions in the information packets they receive with the tickets.

In addition to the tour, patrons are invited to a Holiday Gourmet Bazaar at Christ by the Sea on the day of the event.

Tickets go on sale November 1 and can be purchased at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church, 3755 Highway A1A or at Marine Bank & Trust locations, 571 Beachland Blvd. and 1450 US Hwy 1.   Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the tour, cash or check only.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. FPL power pole upgrade jams traffic, damages grass

Complaints by south beach residents about midday traffic jams on Highway A1A, south of 17th Street, last week prompted FPL to shift lane closures to the overnight hours for the installation of new concrete power poles. 11-year-old breaks into church, steals laptop on Christmas Day

GIFFORD — An 11-year-old who deputies said broke into a church and stole a laptop on Christmas Day, was detained. Deputies also arrested the boy's mother after saying she failed to report the boy as missing. The Gifford youth told deputies he stole the $700 laptop because "he wanted something to play with," reports show. Deputies said the juvenile was a runaway. An arrest report noted the incident took place at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, located just south of St. Peter's Academy. Both facilities have the same address at 4250 38th Avenue, Gifford.
