Staff ReportVERO BEACH — Minor League baseball officials, in charge of running the Dodgertown facility, will extend an offer to the Chicago Cubs to consider holding spring training at the historic park. The Cubs are said to be entertaining a move from their Spring Training home in Mesa, Ariz.Craig Callan, the Minor League representative running Dodgertown, has spoken with County Administrator Joe Baird on the subject, Baird confirmed Friday. However, the chances of the Dodgers landing the team seem remote. The Cubs, who are under new ownership, are in negotiations for improvements to the Mesa stadium and are also considering a proposal from a group in Naples, Florida. Published reports in Ariziona say Mesa needs to match whatever Naples offers to keep the Cubs from heading to Florida.
