Turkey Trot to benefit Harvest Food & Outreach Center

VERO BEACH — If you’re already feeling guilty about overeating on Thanksgiving Day and then vegetating in front of the TV afterward, start the day doing something healthy instead.  The second annual Turkey Trot Against Hunger will start at 7:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning at Riverside Park.  Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the cost is $20 in advance or $25 the day of the race.

All proceeds from the 5K run/walk will go to support Harvest Food & Outreach Center, which has two locations in Vero Beach (and one in Fort Pierce).

If you’d just like to support the effort by starting the day with a hearty breakfast, then come to Riverside Park for a full pancake breakfast, featuring Marsh Landing’s famous sweet potato pancake batter. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for kids 10 and under; all proceeds support HFOC.

Local businesses who have already “trotted out as sponsors include Glendale Properties, Marine Bank & Trust Company, Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company, PD-Go! Website Design, Publix, Seald Sweet and the Crockett Group.

Harvest Food & Outreach Center is primarily a food subsidy program offering help to those in need. Other services include services, emergency food boxes and case assistance, Medicaid advocacy and job skills training and job placement assistance.
