INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The election for two county commission seats isn’t for another 10 months and yet it is already drawing four candidates into the race.
The two seats available serve districts two and four, which currently are represented by Commissioners Joe Flescher and Peter O’Bryan, respectively.
Two challengers have filed to run for Flescher’s seat, both of which are Sebastian residents and have city council ties.
A funeral home owner has filed to run against O’Bryan, who announced Tuesday that he would be campaigning to retain his seat on the county dais.
Current Sebastian City Councilwoman Dale Simchick and former Sebastian City Councilwoman Carolyn Corum are running to replace Flescher on the county commission.
Flescher has not filed for the election.
There are several months left for Indian River County residents to decide whether or not to file to run for the Board of County Commissioners.
Both district races will have a primary election Aug. 24 with the general election to follow Nov. 2.
